A-B M is a queer non-binary interdisciplinary artist and quadruple Virgo from North Carolina who specializes in illustrative, fine-line blackwork tattoos. A-B graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2013 with a BFA in painting, and has exhibited work in Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Oakland.  They began tattooing in the winter of 2014, learning and sharing skills of the trade amongst artists and friends on the east coast before chasing the sun to California in 2015. The necessity to integrate this intimate art form into a sustainable practice motivated A-B to perfect their craft in Oregon in occupied Chinook land (so-called Portland), where A-B is now a licensed tattoo artist in north Portland working at Constellation Tattoo Collective, a queer & QTPOC space collectively owned and operated by its artists. As a licensed tattoo artist who was primarily self-taught, A-B is enthusiastic about supporting other queer self-taught artists and welcomes questions regarding sanitation and safe(r) tattooing techniques from self-teaching artists. A-B regards tattooing as a vital empathetic practice and place to hold radical space for dialogue and healing, as well as a viable venue for the redistribution of wealth by implementing anti-capitalist strategies such as sliding-scale payments and 100% donation-oriented flash fundraisers.

A-B maintains an active practice of making drawings, comics, flyers, and objects from a home studio. In their free time, A-B ghost hunts, collects and devours books of myths and folklore, makes comics & mixtapes, plans road trips, works on their van, and plays with their kitten Mosquito. Their artwork portfolio is online at

A-B’s email assistant, who helps answer most emails and schedule bookings, is their partner Katy. Katy is a non-binary trans leatherworker and musician from northern Michigan. You can check out Katy’s leatherwork and collaborations with A-B on their Instagram, @sorryhide
